2008 335xi Valve Cover Gasket..AGAIN!!

Asked by Joseph Jan 08, 2016 at 10:36 AM about the 2008 BMW 3 Series 335xi Coupe AWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Hi

I have done the Valve cover gasket on my 08 335xi twice in the past year. I thought it may have been pinched the first time and was very careful the second time. Can it be cracked or warped(plastic) any ideas on where I should look for cracks , seems to be near the plugs, no oil leak on the outside
thanks

Yes inspect the valve cover closely for flatness and cracks. Over tightening of the mounting bolts will cause a leak also.

Use a SMALL amount of gasket sealer on the new gaskets when re- assembling it. I like the Ultra grey sealant but put in on very THIN, don't goop in on and pay attention to what Rowefast said.
