How do I activate my BMW 3 series 328i 2008 sedan alarm system

The car does not have a traditional alarm system, however it has what is called an Immobilizer, which is basically a chip inside the Key with a unique ID that is matched to the vehicle. so basically the car would not start.

I have a 2015 320i and was told it has a built in anti theft system. I didnt realize that the chirp/panic feature is what I do not have but the anti theft is included in the 3 series.
