Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Why would this happen. We were parked with truck
on for maybe about 5 min, then put in drive and not
even 20 seconds the Check Engine light came on
and truck turned off, the battery still powered the
radio and lights, we were still in parking lot and just
viered into parking space turned on truck waited
about 10 min before turning truck back on and
luckily made it home.

Since the check engine light came on, you should have a diagnostic trouble code set, have that read (by a mechanic or for free at a parts store). Then post code here or look it up online.
