I get an occasional no start no crank symptom from my 2009 journey. It just leaves you stranded. Do you know the problem?

Remove and clean battery terminals als check wire connections to starter making sure they are tight.

How do you know your key fob is good?
I have a New key fob...this problem of no start no crank is all over the internet but no-one has an answer to the problem. Is it the neutral safety switch?
JerryAutoSpecialties... answered 9 years ago
The neutral safety switch, control the starter motor to run only in park or neutral if the neutral safety switch is bad you can see to kind of problem. 1 the engine crank in all gears or 2 the engine don't crank in any gear. simply don't crank. if your problem of the key fob is solve but you don't have crank you need to verify the batt condition, neutral safety switch, starter motor. but listen in this vehicle the starter motor is controlled by the pcm, if the pcm don't receive the signal from the key fob (anti theft) the pcm don't give the signal to the starter motor.
This problem is common with similar Chrysler ignitions even without key fobs. I've also read that it's not the starter or battery either. I don't wanna just throw money at it if nobody including dealers can figure it out. It's hard to believe there's no definite solution to be found, even with all the complaints
firebird338 answered 9 years ago
Did not say it was the starter the starter or battery just told them to check the connections to them.

When you go to start the car and you turn the key see one red light just a red point iluminate and then go off the system is good but if the light stay on you have a problem whit the theft system. When you go to start the car and turn the key and you don't see the check engine light on you have a problem with the "auto shutdown relay" . The check engine light in those car iluminate after you try to start the car, but if the light is not iluminating in the moment you turn the key you have a problem in the "auto shutdown relay". You can make a jump cable to prove. If you have a problem with the alternator to you have a problem in the PCM because the voltage regulator is inside the pcm and you maybe have a problem with the auto shutdown relay. You can do a prove with doing a jump wire in the auto shutdown relay if the car start you need to check the pcm.
Has anyone figured this problem out? I put in a new starter and the ignition recall but still has starting issues.

I have had my 2009 Journey to the dealer 4 times with this same problem. I have noticed it happens mostly when raining or Temps in the 90's outside. The dealer has had my vehicle for over 3 weeks. I am driving their loaner 2016 Jeep Liberty. This morning my husband took his Ford F150 to do errands because the Jeep, for the 4th time in 3 weeks, won't start. Same thing as the Journey! I am very frustrated. No answers.
I bought a 2010 Dodge Journey and am having the same issues. I spoke with dodge and they said that they won't issue a recall unless more people start calling and complaining. There is no known solution to the problem but I think everyone needs to start calling and complaining. I know for a fact that they've had several complaints but apparently not enough. Let's flood them with calls! The number is 1- 800- 521- 9922
My 2010 Dodge Journey has the no start problem but it didn't start doing it until they did the recall for the ingnition switch. It also stalls when stopped in carpool line at school!

The cause is definitely the neutral safety switch. I have a 2009 Dodge Journey and I have had the same problem for months now. Where it will start just fine one day then the next it will fail to start. I have actually been stuck somewhere because my car has failed to start. When your car will not start, turn it on, push your break in, and put the gear in neutral. Once it is in neutral, start your car. This should allow your car to start. If it starts, then you know that the problem is for sure the neutral safety switch. The neutral safety switch is not a very expense part.Anywhere around 20-60 Dollars. In most models, they have the neutral safety switch in the transmission. Dodges, Jeeps, and Chryslers have them on the bottom of the transmission. Which is clearly not smart because water and what not gets inside the neutral safety switch very easily, which causes the malfunction. If you are handy with tools or knows somebody that can fix it for you, there are youtube videos that are very specific and helpful and actually, step by step, show you how to change it out. It is so simple that the people who call themselves "professional mechanics" forget about it or just want your money and keep you coming back for more.
jmaynard3 is correct it is the swafety switch. this happens to me every time it rains. Had everything replaced a yr ago battery, starter, recall for harness and ignition, and it still happened and mostly when rain. Did this trick today and it started right up. Thanks for the info, now I can sell this pos......
My 2009 does this but i cannot get the vehicle out of park and the security light flashes then turns all the lights on in dash
We are having the same problem. We have taken it to the dealership 3 times and another mechanic and they have told us everything is fine and looks good....excepts it just randomly wont start after we drive it sometimes and if we let it sit for a day it will start up just fine. We have been stranded a few times because of this. Not sure what the problem is but It is very frustrating.

I'm having the same problem. As Jonathan. Unable to take the vehicle out of park, interior brake and headlights work, and this symbol comes up
omg i just went to the dealership bc 2 times in 3 weeks i could not start my car. he said the starter, alternator and battery look fine. ugh! i was stranded with 2 kids. im so pissed!!
My 2009 Journey has had this problem for about 3 years now. It will start when placed in neutral, which is definitely the neutral safety switch, I just haven't taken time to get it replaced, but it will start every time in neutral.
I have a 2009 Journey and have had the same problem, The last timeI had it I took it out of park and put it back in and it started right away. The next time it happened I immediately took It out of park and put it back I think there is a dead spot in park
My 2010 Journey has the same problem so I tried the answer from jmaynard3196 and it worked today. I am going to get the neutral safety switch replaced.
This is still happening to us with our 2010 journey. However when it happens we can not push the break in or move it to any other gear its like its locked. If we let it sit for a few hrs and go back it will start right up. We tried replacing the battery in the key to see if that was it but nope it still is doing it. It will run great till we turn it off then we can not get it to start until it sits for a few hours. And no one seems to be able to figure it out. We have taken it to multiple places!
I have a 2015 Journey and the fuel pump had to be replaced twice. The first time the car wouldn't start and the steering locked up. The second time (this week) it died in gear- thank God I was driving on an empty side road or could have been killed if I was on the highway!!
I have the same problem with my 2009 Dodge Journey SXT. It's the sensor in the ignition switch. Sometimes if you take the key out and turn it around it works. Sometimes if you use your spare key it works. Sometimes if you put it in neutral it works. Sometimes if you just wait a while it works. Sometimes if you put a battery charger on it it works. I've noticed it acts up more in moist or humid weather, but can anytime. It sucks. I've had my switch changed 3 times and they all had the same problem almost immediately after. I read online and these were the suggestions I got from other owners who have the same problem and I've had to use each technique at different times, sometimes one after the other. Good luck.
Thanks jmaynard3196, I'll try the neutral safety switch. God knows I've tried everything else.
Thank you jnaynard3196 while waiting for roadside assistance I found your response and tried it and it worked. This happens about every 6months to me. Wish I could afford a new car
What kind of crap is Fiat/Chrysler selling us? No wonder Consumer Reports says the Journey is a piece of junk? The Japs are shaming us with their reliability! Sell your shares of all North American auto manufacturers! I have 200 shares of Ford which I've been under water on for about 5 years! Will never buy North American cars again!
I can't believe how terrible Chrysler has been at even helping at customer service. I have a case # and spoke to them numerous times. My car was towed again and is now in for the 4th time with fuel pump problems and now I will be getting a lawyer because they are horrific! The car died in gear! Service just keeps replacing parts and hasn't once cared about the safety of the car AND on the last service report the agent wrote "no idea this was a continuous problem" yet he serviced the car the previous three times!! The all lie!
My car 2010 Dodge Journey is doing the same thing won't start... but if I wait it will start omg ..... and nobody knows why everyone is saying this or that I just want to cry .
Clean all battery terminals and grounds connected to the frame with sand paper and wire brush, get the coat of paint off where the grounds connect
I'm having the same problem I have been haven problem sense I have the vehicle it been to shop so many times I don't know what think when bought this vehicle it's been problem after problem Dodge Journey 2009 SXT I haven had but about 7 months bad luck and it is frustrating and I'm on a set income
I recently brought a Journey SXT 2010 used having starting issues also, have made multiple calls to AAA. Not my battery, have jiggled fuse box and pushed down on a few fuses and it sometimes works. Looking to change out Wireless Control Module to see if this helps. But with all the problems everyone is talking about not sure it will work. Today I had to walk a mile to work because I had to open my store on time, not happy Dodge. And my car is not part of the recall it was built in August and recall stops with cars built up to January 2010. Don't buy this car.
So I seriously hate this car !!!! My dog. Other bought me this 2010 Dodge Journey as an anniversary gift, and it has been nothiing but problems. New key fob, new battery, new wiring connectors, and still SAME PROBLEM!!! I DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY THERE ISN'T ANY CONCRETE REASON FOR THIS. good thing is if I wiggle the wire for the battery, I can usually gert the car to start, but why should I have to keep doing that. Ughh!!! Can't wait to get rid of this piece of shit
To everyone who is having problems with your Dodge, I recommend filing a complaint with the NHSTA, get enough complaints maybe they will consider recalling all of these crappy cars from Dodge. Takes about 5 minutes on line. The trick with putting foot on brake and moving gear shift also seemed to work for me, however when ignition is not on, can not put my car in any other gear but that little wiggle was enough to get ignition.
to get around this problem you need to do the followiung turn ignitioin key 3/4, put foot on brake, shift to N and then turn kety all the eay and your journey will start. yes it works and I don't get stuck anymore.
I have had so many issues with my Journey 2010 since I drove my car off the car dealerships lot. I have been in so many argument over the phone and there has been nothing but the run around given to me. My issue started when my car had only 7,000 miles on it. My car used to shake and vibrate horribly when I would reach past 40mph. I went back and forth on multiple occasions with the dealership. The first 3 times I was told nothing was wrong; The fourth time I was told on of my gasket heads was defective... Ok then a month later it started doing this vibrating thing again so apparently another gasket head went... OK then a couple months later it did it again. What do you know the one they replaced went bad again. Since then that issue seems to be resolved (knock on wood) but now I am also having starter issues. I only have 70000 miles on my car. Apparently there needs to be a recall on the entire car!!! We shouldn't have to be finagling ways to start our car. Has anyone had any directive for Dodge on what to do or what can we do as the costumer? I have no engine lights on acknowledging there is an issue but clearly there is.
I'm having this problem right now with my 2010 journey. 28000 miles on it, 7 years old. It wouldn't start while hot. When cooled off it started. Mechanic has it now. Rule number 1: never go to the dealer. Dodge mechanics are incompetent boobs. I always go to a mechanic I have been using for 25 years. If it happens again I will try joe's suggestion so I hopefully don't get stuck again. And then I'll know it's the safety switch and have my regular mechanic change it. I've loved my journey until now. Hope I can keep loving it.
I am having the same problem. Turn the key and there is a click but no start. My 2010 Dodge Journey has a remote start feature. I am wondering if that is a source of the problem. My question is: do other people hear that little click when key is turned?
Hey Danny, I am also having the same issue right now and yes, I too hear one click but no start. However, if you just quickly turn the key over and over and over again, it will eventually start. I have it in the mechanics to figure it out, but they need it to fail to track down the issue and of course it won't fail now. lol
Danny depress your brake while starting car works 99% of the time. If you have a miss start after doing this jiggle the gear shift and it should work. Was having the same problem for months until a mechanic told me about putting foot on brake. haven't had problem of being stranded since.
Creolebetty answered 7 years ago
Same problem here, but also doesn't always start in neutral. Dealership has given me three reasons, all three have been fixed and it continues....hate the Dodge journey
Exactly the same problem with my 2010 Dodge Journey as Danny & Kcronin22. Ran fine Saturday, garage overnight, no start Sunday morning. Battery replaced 5 weeks ago. Roadside assistance was able to get it started by continually turning key. At independent mechanic now, and he is unable to duplicate the problem. Good info. here from Quaker 123 and others. Going to mention the neutral safety switch. Thank you all!
I just bought a 2010 yeaterday and not even an hour into bringing it home I've had the same problem. Won't start and it clicks. It took about 20 minutes of messing with it to turn on. It's now at the dealer and so far it's turned on evertime they try. I have until tomorrow to to return it and I'm honestly tempted.
I'm not sure if I feel better knowing so many other people have this problem. Last week it didn't start up a few times only when it had been out in the Vegas heat for a few hours, but after 10-20 minutes it would. Then it wouldn't start, no lights or AC, and the battery was dead. Put in a new battery and the next day it was back to not starting up. Tried all the neutral, foot on brake, jiggle the shifter tricks and nothing happening. If I wait long enough, it will start up again but this is getting ridiculous. I need to have the airbag recall done, so will have them check it out then and let you guys know what they say.
Thanks for keeping me up to date on this silly dilemma! Should be a recall on this issue! My next car will not be a Fiat/Chrysler product!
I bought my 2009 Dodge Journey brand new and didn't experience this problem until after recall done about the fall of 2015.) Problem started in early 2016-Have replaced neutral safety switch, starter(twice-mechanic thought maybe 1st was faulty), battery, & alternator -and problem still exists - Seems to be a daily problem now - Putting the car in neutral 'seems' to start it but how long will that last? Thought about going back to dealer but obviously they don't know the solution either so will forget about that!
So the mechanic said it was the Engine Control Module and then quoted me some ridiculous price to have it fixed. Looking online they run around 500 and aren't that hard to replace. Will probably just try to do it myself since that's about 25% the cost he quoted.
My 2010 Dodge Journey occasional will not crank due to the same problem i now just hold the brake, turn the key to on, and put the gear stick in neutral and crank the car. Works every time so far.

I am having the same problem with my 2010 Dodge Journey. It will click but will not turn over. When it happened last week I had the battery replaced. The new battery has been in for 5 days and it did it again on my lunch break. I used the press the brake then shift to neutral and it started. I filled a complaint with the NHTSA.
I'm having the same issue with my 2009 Journey. Initially when it started if I would just sit for a few minutes it would adventually start. Now the only way it starts is with a jump and it's something that only occurs when it's hot. It's so frustrating to randomly be stuck and having to wait for a jump. Next time I'll try putting it neutral to see if that works
anikstucker answered 7 years ago
I'm having the same issue whit the 2009 journey. But now it worst the key stock in the ignition switch and try everything. Last year the dealer change the ignition for the recall since some problem start. Doesn't crank, no light and canot put in neural. The battery is new and if i see the dealer won't not find my problem if i drop there. If someone find the problem let me know.
I had this experienced on my 2009 Dodge Journey SXT. I brought it to their car dealership shop to have it fix. I experienced both already, first one is that it has a lttle bit of click noise when you try to Turn it ON and the second one is No-click or cranking at all. Brought it to their shop for diagnosis. Afetr performing diagnosis test, the funny result is they can't seem to see any faults or problems why my vehicle is acting up like that. So what they recommend to do is reprogram the WIN (Wireless Ignition Node) module in order for them to determine what are the parts needed to be replaced after doing the reprogramming & re-installing of a newer version of software. To me I find it funny & disappointing , first they hook on my vehicle to their Garbage computers or whatsoever and didn't even find any problems. And now they are telling me that one way or the other to determine the problem is to re-install a new software and do another reprogramming just to determine what parts are not functioning properly. And also the Service Advisor tells me that doing so won't be a guarantee to fix the issue. What a bunch of clown mechanics are they are.
You know, there should have been a recall on this issue with these vehicles! What would happen here in Western Canada, because of this problem, should a mother with some kids get stranded in winter with 2 or 3 kids with a car that won't start when it's -30 C outside? Chrysler would be in big time damage control! They don't have enough money to pay the lawsuits that would result!
push the gear shift lever harder towards park. the park sensor switch sometimes gets out of position and the car thinks that the car is not in park, if this is the case either adjust the switch position or have a mechanic do it.
I have a 2009 Dodge Journey SXT AWD SUV that I purchased in cash for a car dealership for almost $ 6,ooo in Nashville, TN. two months ago. I've never has any problems until yesterday when I go to start my SUV and it won't start!!! My husband tried to give me a boost from his Ford F-150 Truck and it didn't work. It doesn't click it's total silence and it's dead!!! No light come on in my dashboard, my radio won't work, my windrow won't roll down but my headlights do come on. I tried anyone advice here and didn't know until yesterday that so many other people everyway has the same exact problem!!! Me and my husband are getting it towed tomorrow to the dealership to find out what the problem is. I'm calling NHSTA tomorrow to make my complaint and "EVERYONE HERE NEED TO DO THE SAME SO A RECALL CAN BE ISSUED ON THIS 2009 DODGE JOURNEY!" Does anyone know If it's a RECALL ON THE NEUTRAL SAFETY SWITCH for the 2009 DODGE JOURNEY?????????? HELP ANYBODY!!!!!!!!!! PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!
I'm currently sitting in a dead 2010 Journey with my 3 year old. The brake pedal won't compress, the engine won't turn, I can't get the shifter from park to neutral, and the key fob won't release and is stuck in the ignition switch. The Windows are down and won't roll up and we are not at home so I don't feel comfortable leaving the car open with the key inside. How long should it take to have the car restart itself?
To date, this start problem is not yet resolve>\?

I’m having these same problems with my 2009 Journey. I had this problem about three years ago, had someone take the battery off and clean it really good and didn’t have any problem until about a month ago, started doing the no start and window wouldn’t go down . Took it to have battery checked and it was bad so they replaced it and the window started working , but week later it did the no start again, took it back because I thought cables weren’t tight enough they checked it said no it’s tight . Took to mechanic he said needed starter . $200 . Got home week later no start again . They took it back to shop said it needed neutral Safty switch, I’m now debating on getting this done I’m afraid to spend $400 and get home and it does it again . As of now I can put it in neutral and most of the time it will work but not sure how long that will work Help
I have same problem I figured out its on the bottom of the shift soloniod inside the trasmission pan but u need a dip stick to fill the fluid after you have to unmount the shift pack and set the crank at the bottom after taking off your linkage it's tricky but can be done yourself make sure u have gasket oil and get the miller tool to check your transmission fluid good luck It took me 2 days a lot of swearing to figure this out
And if u push u shift lock down n put it to reverse it's really nutral and will start park it is driveable if u can figure it out but I suggest fixing it
So interesting to find this is plagues other vehicles of Dodges. I have a 2000 Dodge Intrepid that has had this odd problem for years. We bought it used, drove fine for 6 months then went into this crazy random no start issue. Like the others, if I waited an hour or so it would always start up. Then after a few months of that going on, it suddenly just went away and the car started fine for almost 3 years. Just made a drive from Atlanta to Vancouver Washington this january. The very last stop on the road home for a fill up, surprise! At the pump, car wouldn't start-just dead when I turn the key. Just the dash and bells for a few seconds but no crank. This time its a few years down the road and its worse. It now takes a day to 2-3 days to start, just once. So I have to lock the car while running to do anything and have to hurry. I hoped when I got to the bottom of this thread that someone would have finally found the missing link to this. I guess this is just some feature in Dodge's vehicles lol. And I dont have an anti theft security system in the car at all..... so we can rule that out.

just so you people no i have fixed about five or six of these by running a ground cable from battery to engine bock have not had one come back for same problem i hope this helps yous
I had my ignition replaced under a recall in my 2009 Dodge Journey. For the next year and a half my car would simply not start. Replaced the battery and starter, still had the issue. No issues before the non start, the fob simply would not start the car and I would be stranded. My mechanic and Dodge could not find the problem. Finally my new mechanic started messing around with the wires by the ignition as nothing else made sense. My car would start with the remote start but not the key fob. Low and behold the wire going from the ignition to the started was corroded and he replace it for $9.00. No issues ever since, when I mentioned this to Dodge they did confirm it was an issue they were seeing
Someone said they couldn't put on the brakes and shift it....well you have to turn the key to the on position in order to shift it into neutral while braking...with that said I have a 2010 Dodge journey sxt with the same start up issue...I'm at wit ends this journey is nickels and dining me....it starts right up in neutral wish I had learned that trick beforehand....anyway it is not a simple fix...I was quote in the 475.00 to 600.00 range and that was with my part I provide and not including transmission fluid if need be.... absolutely amazing..things that happen to my car that normally they say doesn't go bad, kinda goes bad in my car
The dodge dealer just replaced my battery for $400 even though at the dealer it started right up. In my reasoning you do not replace the battery if it starts right up. If my car will not start again, I am going to try putting it in Neutral. I have a feeling it is something like the neutral safety switch or security FOB.
they will bleed you till your broke everyone call and file a complaint everyday try to make there lives as miserable as they have done us

We just had this issue, and I got my hubby to get a ride back to work where out Journey was stranded, and it started in neutral. I'm in Canada... any idea where I report this to?
I have a 2010 Journey SE 2.4 that had a random no start / no crank and it was with the Starter solenoid connector. If its not the neutral safety switch check the connector on the Starter solenoid. For me it would back off of the connector occasionally and result in a no start / no crank situation. Reaching my arm in and pushing the Starter Solenoid connector back on fixed it EVERY time. Finally added some Dielectric grease to the connector and never had an issue again.
If you are experiencing problems with your Dogde Journey starting please call 1-800-465-2001 to register complaint. This is for individuals who live in Canada...we need to be heard because it is an on going problem and there should be a recall!!
I have the 09 journey stx and same issue for 3 years now. I have always been able to get it to start within 3 tries by juggling the shifter in park. This last week that isn't working as well. Going to call dodge and make the complaint but wondering if anyone can post about something they fixed that has been a LONG term fix. Also...the starting issue is way more often in summer and almost never in winter.
Dodge2009Guru answered 6 years ago
I had the exact same problem - twice in four years - for a period of time in 2014 and again in 2017-2018. You can test your starter directly (bypassing security and other circuitry) by pulling the K3 relay and placing a jumper wire between points 30 & 87 (these are labelled on the relay prongs). Be sure the shift lever is in park!! If the starter does not respond, you need a new starter. It is likely on a "dead" spot where the brushes have worn away and do not carry the electric signal. From my experience, the starters do not have a long life. It could be that the starter dead spot is borderline, where it intermittently allows the electric signal and other times it doesn't. Also, other times it does not land on a dead spot within the starter brushes. At least you can use this to test the starter directly before looking at other components.
I have a 2010 DJ SXT and in September of 2017....it intermittently didn't start for about a month, about 8-10 times total. It always started right up on the second try, except for one time it was on the third. I didn't do anything different when I started it the second time. I got a new battery, didn't change anything. My alternator tested fine too. It's been fine for about 11 months now. Out of the blue, a couple of days ago, it did it again....and has done it about 2-3 times. Why did it only happen for a month last time and what's causing it to do it almost exactly a year later now? Things that make me go hmmmmmm.
I am having the same problem and I have a 2016 Journey. Can't press the brake and it won't start. It will go in neutral but still won't start.
It'll take the death of Journey owners, who can't start the car in freezing temps., before Dodge acknowledges the defect!
I have a 2015 Dodge Journey AWD, it’s been fine up till 79,000 miles. I bought it brand new. Push button start. Went to store, came out and it would not start. The radio, air conditioner came on. The throttle body unit light and engine light came on. Purchased a new throttle body unit . Dodge put it in, said it was fine. Drove it home. Next morning it would not start. Engine light, throttle light, not detecting my fob light and says my car isn’t in park when it is in park. Called service department at Dodge, they suggested I take it to a mechanic, when their the ones that replaced the throttle body unit. They will not pay for a tow back to dealership so they can check it. They didn’t even do a diagnostic check on it. They want me to pay for a tow back to dealership and have me pay $80 for diagnostic check which they should have done in the first place. Car is only 3 years old. I tried everything people suggested on here. Nothing works! Still owe money, making payments otherwise I would get rid of this POS! Idk what to do??
I HAD THE ISSUE OF MY 2009 JOURNEY NOT STARTING FOR THE 3RD TIME IN 3 MONTHS. I SHOWED THE BATTERY WAS BAD AND I REPLACED THE BATTERY TWICE BUT IT'S DOING THE SAME THING..(CLICK-CLICK)...SEEMS LIKE A BATTERY ISSUE, BUT I DON'T KNOW WHAT MAYBE BE DRAINING THE BATTERY. I LET THE CAR SIT FOR 20 MINS AND IT STARTED FINE...
My 2010 Journey is in the shop with the same NO START issue. Lights come on, but no one is home (no click-click). Left me standard with a trunk full of groceries at Walmart last night. When my car works, I LOVE it, but I have only had this car for a year and a half and already dropped around $3000 in repairs bills. I am very frustrated!

I have a 2010 Journey SUV that I bought second hand that randomly would not start for 3 days. All lights working fine so I knew it wasn’t the battery. I came here, took the advice to press the brake, turn the FOB, place the car in neutral and it immediately started. What the heck!! I’m so grateful this worked but this should be a recall. I live in the US and need to register a formal complaint but to who. Any suggestions?
Same problem I thou ot was the battery but no change the starter but no now am changing the neutral safety will see what's next am so done with this car to many problems
I'm having the same problem and did the neutral safety switch trick and it started fine. I recommend you do the same. Turn the ignition on, put the gear lever in neutral while pressing the brake, then start the engine. If it starts it's the neutral safety switch
I purchase a dodge journey about two weeks ago. I am having the turn key on will not start. They really need to fix this I will call with my complaint. This is dangerous for anyone. I will try y some thigs i see and hope that helps.
Dangerous, when you're stalled on a major highway in the middle of the night, or stalled when it's -30F outside, with no help or heat in sight! Once a few people die, then they'll wish they had issued a recall on these vehicles when the lawsuits start hitting their mailbox! Big fine too!
Also have à Dodge Journey 2009. With everything that we have changed i can say it’s almost a 2019 now ! But still get stuck some place because it wont start.. have found this vidéo 2 days ago! Take a look!! https://youtu.be/dXFcxLio69g
What if it won't go in neutral
i have a 2010 dodge journey with 45,000 miles, what a POS!!! starts one day wont the next; can not rely on the this car. I've changed the battery, alternator and starter, worked in the beginning and now happens every so often. i tried changing gear to Neutral when parked and starting the car, worked the few times now it doesn't!! =( (i filed a complaint with NHSTA) WHAT CAN I DO NOW!!!
Also have a dodge journey same issue. I have chnaged the battery 3 times the alternator twice and had the pcm done and now a week after getting it back its broke down again. Biggest pos vehicle I have ever owned.
My MIL is having the same issue on her 2010 Dodge Journey. Starts some times, and doesnt other times. She has been stranded multiple times AND had to miss work bc of it not starting from home. We havent seen weather affecting it. It seems totally random. She has gotten new battery, new starter, full transmition service, the vehicle is well maintained. I just am glad she has an extended warranty bc she was only out the $ for the trans service (which I paid). She just tried putting it in neutral and it didnt start. She has been dealing with this for months and no one can figure it out. We are beyond peeved about it bc obviously somethong is wrong. She is calling Dodge tmre AND the dealership to have them check ignition, coils, safety switch and anything else I find that coukd be the culprit.
I have had this vehicle for 2 years now, everyone has tried many different things and spent a lot of money trying to find the problem. I haven't seen any true fix for this yet. I have not been stranded since I tried this trick. Put foot on brake, attempt to put car in neutral, you will feel the brake depress a little, and then start the vehicle. It has worked everytime, Dodge is doing nothing about it, I have also complained to them and the NSTA.
I'm having same problem with 2010 journey but I've solved one problem by turning ignition on putting it in neutral and craking. It worked but now mine is turning over and it sounds like the ignition gets stuck and will not crack it's as if it's not getting gas

2009 Dodge Journey have had 5 months and tried to start this morning and won’t start... all lights come on and acts like it wants to start but won’t engage... have tried to put in neutral still won’t start... messed with battery cables and still won’t start... tried to jump it and once again nothing!!! Any ideas???
Contact your Dodge dealer about bulletin TBS 08- 009-12... I have the same issue, and it was an answered prayer to find this bulletin for a no start on a 2009 Dodge Journey.Tgey need to update reflash or reprogram/update your TIPM computer module(fuse box). I was told it's an antitheft problem. Your car thinks someone is stealing and occasionally it doesn't start. Reflashing the TIPM is suppose to reset it.I'm getting mine done this week...God Bless and hope that helps! Rob Ransom
I had this problem a year ago and put a new battery in it. EXACTLY one year later it started again. I have to be jumped and it stays running but after sitting it has to be jumped. Read on here put it in Neutral and then try it. so I went out and nope car didnt start, I put it in Neutral AND IT STARTED!!! THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!
Rob let us know if that works, I have found when my wife's 09 dodge journey sxt does it. If we take the main ground and disconnect it and let it set for 5 to 10 mins then reconnect. When we reconnect after said time it will spark and the horn will sound 1 time. Then it tends to start.
I tried the trick Joe suggested but it still didn't work. Car has a brand new battery and alternator, so it's not that. The lights and everything comes on it just won't turnover. Every mechanic I go to is stumped. Anyone else might have a suggestion on what it could be?
I did the TIPM software patch. It did nothing for the failure to start. We still have to start in neutral, more frequently if anything. The dealer is looking into a sensor in the transmission (not sure if it's the neutral safety sensor) but they said they usually have a code with that. Before they open the transmission ($$) they want to know if there were cases where the sensor was faulty but no generating fault code.
