how can u tell if the motor mount will need to be replaced

With the hood open, have someone watch as you start the engine, put it in drive hold the brake hard then accelerate the engine watch for movement do the same in reverse if the engine mounts are bad excessive movement should be obvious.

What about a hard knocking noise when u stop or putting it in gear, would that be trans or mounts?
