Question type: Maintenance & Repair

2005 Escape Limited V6.. approx. 145k.  Rough idle at first with "check emission system" computer warning. Diagnosis , Number 2 cylinder not operating. Bogs above 4000 rpm. Now tech says computer in car is gone. Needs repair. Help ! Car not in US and parts hard to get . Any advice would be appreciated. Already replaced plugs, wires, air filter, fuel filter, oil change.

Thanks Tom... when you say check the convertor. Can you tell if it's bad without replacing it ? We did plugs, fuel filter, air filter , oil change first. But no improvement. Would love it to be only the convertor. I would say the CEL light has been on and off for a 6 month period. Never constant. Does this sound like the problem ? During that time only misfiring at about 4,000 rpm. Then suddenly all the time.
