2005 Ford Escape doors not always locking
Asked by burnedfaceless Feb 22, 2014 at 08:19 PM about the 2005 Ford Escape Limited FWD
Question type: Maintenance & Repair
I have a 2005 Ford Escape.
Sometimes when I lock the doors not all of them lock. This happens when I use the clicker
until the horn honks, and when I slide the key.
This happened just now with the driver rear door and earlier today with one of the
passenger side doors.
Sometimes the alarm goes off, sometimes it doesn't.
I can keep pressing the clicker and they all will lock, right now I'm checking every door.
Any ideas on the locks, and the alarm? I don't have a lot of experience working on cars
and some links or information would be cool.
I don't know what model I have - it's two wheel drive, but I don't know the model. If there's
a number I need to pull I can definitely do that.
Thanks

By clicker do you mean the key fob? If so I suspect a bad battery in the fob. When the batteries start to get low in key fobs all sorts of weird things can happen. I would replace the battery in the key fob.

Do you mean something else you said key fob but also change batter in key fob...assuming typo.

I'll change it. I'll tell you man I've been working for a utility company and for a day there I accidentally put the key FOB in the water to unlock a valve. So I was amazed it worked. I'll change that today and then later I'll post an update.
Since it got wet you might try leaving the fob open and placing it in a Zip lock of rice. This will help to draw the moisture out of it.

That did it. I changed the battery in the FOB. There was some wetness I wiped down and took pictures in case it didn't work but it works like a charm now. Thank.
I replaced the key fob and the battery and the sensor is the original one. However 50% of the time my key-less entry will not let me unlock or lock the rear trunk door. It's annoying what do you think it is? Thank you~
