Car dies when I start.

Asked by Cindy Jul 29, 2016 at 10:23 PM about the 2009 Chrysler Sebring Limited Convertible FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2009 Chrysler Sebring hardtop
convertible. A week
ago it started dying when I stopped at stop
signs or stop lights I would have to put the
car in neutral in order for it to start again but
just as soon as I would put it in drive it
would die again.When I approached a stop
light the car started chugging or like you
were driving a stick shift and you didn't put
in the clutch I would have to put the car in
neutral before it would die to come to a
complete stop without the car dying. I took it
to the dealership they ran an hour-long
diagnostic no error codes came up,  check
engine light never came on or any other
lights on my dashboard came on.they
replaced the map sensor and reset the
computer they said it would run rough for a
couple of days until the computer relearned.
The car continues to die when I am coming
to a stop in drive. I can put it in reverse and
it runs fine. I called the dealership and they
said to bring it back in. They said  it wasn't
the map sensor sense it's still having the
same problem. I took it to my mechanic and
he had the car for 2 days and told me no
error codes was coming up on his
diagnostic. He checked a couple of things
but he advised that I take it back to Chrysler
for a second opinion all he can think is that
it might be the transmission but he doesn't
want to start tearing the car apart and me
racking up a bill if it's not that because
there's just no sensors no lights coming on
my dashboard or the diagnostic.

Cindy, our 2005 sebring is doing the same thing and it slows down on the freeway to about 40 miles an hour until we pull over and restart the car. Does your car do this as well? we were told the computer needs replacing and or the timing belt needs replacement.
