check engine light

My check engine light is on.  I am getting a P 0403 fault code.  Does any one know what that means?  Where can I get a list of what the fault codes mean?
I pulled the negative off the battery and the check engine light went out.  But I'm sure it will return

i belive that is a powertrain code, u should be able to get a book on codes at autozone or they can tell u....

P0403 Exhaust Gas Recirculation Circuit Malfunction Check the EGR!

adrian is right, i was wrong the first go the correct with a look up, so it is the egr, it may need cleaned is all

if you have a 5.7 engine the egr is usually faulty, the egr may still work properly but the electrical is shorted.
