Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I Just replaced the timing belt on my 2009 spectra, for the 2nd time.  The original lasted 92K I replaced the second on at 167K.  In just 3K  I started hearing a noise, a rubbing noise.  I found that the timing belt was running off the edge of the pullies  I installed a new one, and started it and it runs like a top.  but the belt is still off the edge. I was real careful to be sure the belt was in the center of the two main pullies.  Can someone tell me what could be causing this?

Your timing belt probably runs on idler wheels. I suspect an idler wheel has a bearing that is going bad which causes the timing belt to run off to one side.

Could it be the tension is off? I imagine you did this yourself. Please, don't fool around with this, if it breaks while driving, it might cause major engine damage. If you need a professional, I would advise you to do that asap.

You have two idler wheels and the water pump. If any of those are worn they could be the source of your problem. Timing belts kits come with everything you need to replace the entire timing belt assembly which really is the best way to go.
