How can you tell if the clutch is blown in a 2009 Nissan Sentra?

The clutch peddle on my 2009 Nissan Sentra 6 speed, 2.0 liter, gave out completely on my way home. It totally bottoms out and the gear shifter is now loose. It had a burning smell when it broke down. Car still starts. Any ideas?

The burning smell is probably your clutch slipping.

A burning clutch will smell like burning brakes, it is a nasty smell.
