Highway RPMs with overdrive off.
I'm wanting to know what your highway rpms are like at 75mph with overdrive
off. I was worried about high rpms on a car i test drove, but now I'm starting to
think i accidentally disabled overdrive. I was getting roughly 4000 rpms on the
highway.
thats ok...but can you find over drive again????
that's a good question. I'm trying to decide if I should give this car another chance. I had given up on it. If it likely that overdrive pushed the rpms into the 4000's, then I think I will.

My Corolla runs at 2200 rpm @60mph. The O/D button is on the shifter , right below the button to take out of Drive.. 4000 rpm is WAY way too fast engine speed at normal highway speeds. Double what it should be. Even with Overdrive off still way too fast. May be transmission slipping
Well on the corolla i drove the gear shift has 3 and D on the same line. And im pretty sure i had it in 3 which is "overdrive off" sense overdrive is the 4th gear. So it seems reasonable that being off a gear would push them up 1500.
I can be cruising at 70mph @ 2400 rmp. The when I hit the mountain road on the way home, a very steep grade I kick it out of O/D and it purrs along at about 3200rpm.
Mine has L - 2 - D. And it is a 4-speed. Didn't it have a button right where your thumb would naturally be with your hand on shifter?

Thats what it looked like. Maybe slightly different cars. I read that moving to 3 is how you turn overdrive off. I dont recall a button. My other car has that though so i know what your talking abt.
Ok.. yeah the 3-D is 'High Gear' and will go in to O/D automatically unless turned off. This button
But then again the CVT is this.. a POS should never been put on a Toyota

Well yeah, I went to http://www.edmunds.com/toyota/corolla/2010/st-101140841/features-specs/ and it does not show it as having CVT. Shows 4-speed auto. Now I am really stumped on what to say
What I do know for sure is 4000 rpm at even say 75 mph is WAY too high taching
