Question type: Maintenance & Repair
When i a driving my 2010 Toyota Camry the rpms suddenly jump up to 4000
and it sounds like the car is being revved up screaming and i have to take my
foot off the gas pedal for it to go down , it also caused the traction control and
Check engine light to come on now. I'm thinking its something with the
transmission anyone has any insight?

Check the codes first, get those fixed and the move on from there.
There was a major recall on this issue. Google....."Toyota, unintended acceleration." Get back with results.
Well....it's been a couple of weeks. Vladdy.....what's new?
The car has been parked up, still waiting to get it scanned and checked, but based on my research I'm suspecting wheel or transmission speed sensor or transmission fluid low (these are best case scenario).
Ok. Thanks for the update. Did you check with a Toyota Dealer to determine if that recall has been performed on this vehicle?
Just got it scanned with code P2714 " Pressure Control solenoid D Performance or Stuck off" 3 different transmission shops told me that they've seen this before and because its revving up so high when it gets to 3rd gear along with this error , it definitely needs a rebuild kit and possibly a valve body replacement(will determine the valve body once they get inside). So i was hoping for best case scenario but this is worst case so I'm gonna have to spend a pretty penny to do all this.
Suggestion....Google....make ....model....year.....code. you'll get an idea about what might be involved in facilitating this repair. Consider the cost of the suggested repair....age of vehicle....I would be inclined to replace the solenoid....refresh with new Tranny fluid and see what the result is. I had a similar issue with my Yaris. Replaced just the faulty solenoid. Running great ever since. Keep us up to date on this interesting issue
Yes the first thing I asked them is why not just try to replace the faulty Solenoid D as the code is saying and put new fluid instead of jumping to the most expensive option, they said they've had other Camry's where customers did the same thing and had to come back anyway, but i feel like theyre just all trying to get maximum $$ from a big job.
They are claiming it could be the whole valve body needing replacement along with a rebuild based on the revving or there could be other issues wrong once they go inside, but they just wanna take the easier way out and replace everything.
What i am worried about is going to purchase and replace the solenoid and fluid and then it ends up not being that then i still have to go and do the big repair, or if i do the big repair including rebuild and valve body replacement and the issue still remains, what do you think are the chances of that happening after a rebuild and valve replacement?
Hmmm.....interesting questions.....opinions. well .....is there a Toyota Dealership you might want to get an opinion from. They are supposed to be the experts. Might be interesting. Let me check to see if there are any factory service bulletins on this issue.
The Toyota dealership out here will recommend a new trans with a wait time 6-12months minimum for order and charge literally 5 times the price which would be way more than i bought the car for, or they'll say they cant help with that issue.
I do not find any SB concerning this specific code. Most repairs do include a trans replacement. The function of that faulty sol. can be checked with the appropiate Scan Tool. Suggest you consider the value of this vehicle and compare that to the cost of replacing the Trans.
Ill be taking it to one of the transmission specialist shops , I decided to try the cheaper option and see if it works first, I bought the solenoid pressure control replacement and some new trans fluid. So he will be be dropping the transmission pan and inspecting the fluid and valve body and replacing the solenoid , fingers crossed in hopes that it works if thats all that was needed, but if not then I'm back to square 1 of just doing the rebuild for like 3k USD.
Turns out the cheaper option didnt work, all my solenoids were tested and fine but the transmission guy said the pistons and seals on the inside are work probably due to lack of maintenance from previous owner which is probably whats causing the symptoms and will need to get the master overhaul kit with pistons to rebuild the trans.
Hmmmm.....is this vehicle back in your hands or is it all apart at the Tranny shop?
Vehicle back in my hands with the filter and fluid replaced, so now I just gotta decide if I'm gonna spend the money to fix it (approx. $2500usd) or sell it, before this tranny issue it was in perfect condition running smooth, no issues, whats your opinion?
This is what it looks like right now. see photo attached.
With the cost of a new or even used vehicles right now I would fix it, especially if the inside look as good as the outside. One thing for sure is your old Toyota is built better than a new one.
Did the tranny folks replace the solenoid itentified by the p2714 code. If yes.....then I would be inclined to invest in a remanufactured replacement trans. A local rebuild result will depend on the skill and knowledge of the rebuilder. Its like Brain Surgery. The rebuilders success depends on how many of these he has done successfuly. Good Luck.
Well my long time family mechanic and some other persons recommended me to these tranny shops. As for the solenoid, they tested all of them and they were perfectly fine so not sure why it threw that specific code, so I have an extra solenoid I dont need. I have 2 major tranny shops near me so I guess i gotta hope whichever I choose they fix it and do it well.
Ye I was just thinking it over that if i sold this I'd be hard pressed to find something as good for the same price on the used market here that doesnt have a bunch of issues.
If the transmission shop is a good one they will have a warranty so that will help if something should go haywire.
Ok....got it. I have to assume they dropped the Tranny pan and found clutch and bearing material in the pan. Gunk in the pan......A sure sign tranny needs overhaul. Good Luck.

I had a similar issue if it says your car is also overheating try turning on your car the checking the main fan in front of your engine for me it was simple as adding coolant and replacing the fan it was causing my car to overheat and the extra pressure caused a delay/spike in rpm’s
