5w 30 synthetic in 2010 Camry ok?
My 2010 4 cyl Camry is consuming a quart of oil every 1,000 miles. It now
has 210,000 miles and I currently run 0w-20 high mileage synthetic. I know a
newer-model car has tighter clearances between critical engine components,
so they recommend the 0w-20. I also live in a warm climate.
Since the engine is worn / more than broken-in, is it OK to go up to the 30
viscosity to help pass-by or oil consumption since the slightly- heavier film
thickness might help do what seal conditioner and other additives in the high-
mileage oil are not able to do at this point? I am tired of asking the gas
station attendant to "fill up the oil and check the gas".
