drivers side door lock

when I lock the doors with the FOB, and the door locks go down, I can still open  
the driver side door by lifting up on the handle

That may be so you don't lock the key in the car , you need to lock it with the key . Does that make sense ?

The actual lock rod for the latch assembly has came off or the plastic retainer shattered. You will need to remove the door panel to find out.
