Safe to drive (on a 15 hour road trip)?

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Just bought a used 2010 Subaru Forester and
trying to get it home so we can have it looked over
by our mechanic. The former owner had a 90k used
engine replacement put in 10k miles ago.
AT Oil temp light is flashing; check engine,
stabilitrak and ABS lights are on. I’ve checked all
the fluid levels and none are low. No leaks
detected. It doesn’t seem to be actually
overheating. Driving great other than a little spongy
brakes. Hoping to just stay on the road and get
back home to get it looked at- or how serious
should I be at looking to get it towed/ transported
and me to take a rental back home.

Thanks for responding. We’re 6 1/2 hours away and it’s still driving great. Lights come on and off. Ran codes at an autozone and are going to first check the wiring when we get it home and then start troubleshooting from there. What you recommend is where I would land with less risk and more caution, but the risk-taking spouse wanted to try it this way;).

Ha! Well, appreciate your philosophies on life. We got it home. Lights don’t come on anymore. Drives like a dream. We’ll keep a close eye. I will share our philosophy since we have the benefit of hearing yours. As a cautious person I’ll say it’s been good to be stretched by the riskier spouse and vice versa, a summation- “My husband said some risks are worth taking.   Men with courage calculate the risks vs. benefits and when the scale leans towards benefits, they have the balls to take risks.  That’s the path that all leaders of men take; the same path that builds progress.  And, it’s quite the contrary-men push through to take risks because we have experienced failure, and learned from it.  Boys fail once and never try again.” Wish you all the best! And, if married, many healthy discussions of risk vs benefit between the two of you!
