Cranks and hard starts but shakes when I press on pedal?

Asked by Arc41 Mar 30, 2020 at 12:13 AM about the 2010 Volkswagen Passat Komfort

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My passat suddenly started puttering when I got to
work it smelled like straight gasoline I turned it off
until it was time to go when I tried to leave it
started and continued to putter and shake I turned
it off to check the engine when I tried to start it it
would just crank like it wanted to start. Next day I
tried again wouldn't start at all still smelt like gas
and I decided to press the gas pedal when cranking
it started then but let's out whitish blue smoke that
smelled like gasoline I just shut it off and its sitting
now. Any ideas on my situation? 2.0 turbo tsi Audi
engine 4cylinder

Could it be bad fuel? I had just filled up the day before I just dont wanna start replacing things that don't need to be replaced

Thinking I should just syphon my tank add a water remover and put good gas before anything

Could it have anything to do with the break booster? I know it's hooked up to the vacuum line system and it was failing on me before this happened

In the town I'm in we've recently had a issue with a gas station having watered down fuel but it's also literally leaking fuel out my tail pipe I'm thinking it's my fuel pressure sensor on the high pressure fuel pump I've talked to mechanics they wanna just take everything thing apart and replace it I dont see the point in that if it can be one simple thing
