What kind of Electric issue is this?

Asked by Amy May 28, 2021 at 02:36 PM about the 2010 Dodge RAM 1500 Laramie Crew Cab 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Last week I had a starting issue my battery, alternator, and starter were
checked by professionals at an auto shop in an electric system check. Today
after being parked for 5 min engine would not start, I was parked with lights
off, not on auto, just off. I tried to start the truck, so I could move for an
oncoming driver, and it would not turn over. I asked the driver to give me a
jump. He did. After 5 min charging it would not turn over, waited another 5 min
with charging from jump and then it did turn over and start. But then I drove
lest than 0.1mile and the engine died at an idle. I thought we were stranded
walked back 0 .1mile for better cell coverage. I called for assistance etc. But
after 30 min passenger walked back to truck to get something and decided to
try to start truck and it started. So random have no idea what is wrong seems
like battery and alternator must be fine but there is something electrical going
on but it is not killing the battery otherwise it never would have restarted like
that after it died in idle.

Check your battery cable connections at both ends. Make sure everything is clean and tight. Sounds like you have an intermittent bad connection. Hope that helps! Jim
