I have 2011 Chevy ompala. My car was driving fine this morning, I went to the store and pulling into a parking spot it stopped. All I can get it to do now is rev the engine. It won't drive in any gear

Wonderful GM, in all their wisdom did not put a transmission dipstick on this car. There is a bolt on the side of the transmission at the correct level. You fill the transmission until the fluid (dextron III ) starts dripping out that inspection bolt hole, then stops running out at the right level. You are probably low on transmission fluid. If you are, it leaked out somehow and the leak will need to be fixed. Replacing a pan gasket might do the trick unless a seal leaks, then you need it rebuilt- about $900-$1100.

The day I posted this there was thunderstorm right before I went to check it so I was unable to get to look at it then and I only have acces to the internet on my phone so I haven't been here to respond. . My car does have a transmission oil dipstick I found through the usersmanual. The engine does appear to have a very loud sound coming from in front of the transmission, emitting from within or behind what I believe is the intercooler? It is housed inside of a metal casing directly in front of the engine block if that helps. Its very loud. And to reiterate the car doesn't move but appears to shift from the dashboard display.

You may have broken #1 band in the transmission. It can be replaced with moderate skill inside the vehicle without removing the transmission. I just did this
