having problems with my headlights and I am not sure if I am getting straight answers, can you help?

Asked by janetjanet Feb 01, 2015 at 07:36 PM about the 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have had problems with my headlights on my 2011 jeep grand cherokee since I
purchased it...At one time the dealer kept telling me they couldn't find any problem with
the headlight that went on and off..Since, both headlights have now been replaced and
the most recent problem with the newest headlight out (this one had been replaced
approx 1-11/2 years ago..I was told there is water in the headlight assembly..cost this
time on that light to me $1200..I wanted to investigate this further in hopes of getting a
used one,or having Chrysler work with me since there seems to be defective lighting as
i have seen many, many jeeps with headlights out all the time..My concern now is that I
took it home and I just noticed after a day  condensation on the light which was
absolutely not there before the inspection at the dealership...btw...the light was out for
weeks before I took it in as I was not overly concerned with a blown bulb( no lights
working) since the other bulb had just been replaced 2 months ago..  I feel the
dealership may have damaged it...Please advise with your thoughts..Thank you in
advance for any light (pardon the pun) that you can share with me...I really do not have
that kind of disposable income...

I have the same issue with my 2011 Grand Cherokee. I keep getting them replaced and the dealer keeps saying it was different lights (running lights vs headlights etc) Now the right headlight was a pinkish yellow dim color to it and they replaced the ballast and the bulb for $850. No one is taking ownership of the fact that these Jeeps have headlight problems!

Dont have an answer. I am just adding that I have trouble with the driver's side headlight on my 2016 Jeep Grand Cherokee. It's been replaced 3 times in 2 months. I see that same light out all the time.

I am also having the exact same issues with my 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee limited. Replaced headlights 6 months ago, now they are both out again.

I don't have a fix. I've had my right headlamp go out every 4-6 weeks for the last 7 months. We've replaced the connector piece (it was melted the first time we looked). Replaced the bulb 5 times now. Including the left bulb one time thinking maybe they both needed to be the same age. The right bulb isn't actually burned out as it can be wiggled and it'll turn back on but it'll just shut back off again a few minutes later unless the bulb is replaced and then it will stay on for another 4-6 weeks until it starts doing it again. I've been through 2 mechanics who can't figure out why it's doing this. Next step is the jeep dealership but id really like to avoid them. I didn't purchase my jeep through them and I know they're going to charge me an arm and a leg and probably still won't resolve the problem. Any ideas here?

Maybe switch the lights over to an aftermarket system like LED.

You may have a faulty alternator. I had the same problem and I checked on vehicle recalls and found 2. They replaced the alternator because it was on the recall list. Low and behold my light issues went awayx

The first thing to check is the earth connection. They might look alright but it might not be getting a good connection. This is a grey area as a poor connection will give varying voltage (the wrong voltage). You can't tell by looking at these connections. They must be disconnected and cleaned thoroughly. Ground problems are the most common cause of all electrical problems. Normally brought on during spring and autumn with humidity changes.
