Best rim and tire size

Asked by BlackNTan Mar 03, 2014 at 09:40 PM about the 1989 BMW 3 Series 325i Sedan RWD

Question type: General

I want to upgrade to larger rims and lower profile tires. Any suggestions on a good fitting
set up without modifications like suspension or rolling fenders?  Looking for a classy look
not a thug look.

These are 16' rims I got from Tirerack.com. I like them because they are period correct from 25 years ago. I bought the BMW roundels off ebay and put them on myself. I run 225 50R 15s. The speedo is still correct and they just fit inside the rear fenders with no modifications. The tires are sort of expensive, but you can find all season performance tires and they work great year round.

Ooops. They are 15" rims with a 25mm offset. I think that offset is the really important part. Tirerack has a number of styles with that configuration, but some require spacers; I tried to avoid the spacers. Also, I've always liked 5 spoke rims.
