Will a transmission from a 2002 BMW 325i interchange with a BMW 325Ci?

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2002 BMW 325Ci and am struggling to find answers as to
transmission compatibility with my engine... Dealer basically says it needs a
new transmission and a rebuild is out of the question due to it likely being
more than the car is worth... I can't figure out which transmissions from which
vehicles are compatible with mine.

Manual or automatic? If automatic, The 2002 BMW's came with the GM transmission 5L40 E from March 2002 onward . Crawl under the car to check the sticker on the bottom of the transmission pan. You should be good with another GM transmission from a 2002 to 2005. Cross check the part numbers. If your car is older than March 2002, it used a ZF transmission. Any BMW 325 or 330 used the same transmission in the certain model years.

Automatic. I believe it’s a ZF, at least that’s what the transmission shop told me
