Future Maintenance & Repair Expense Estimates for 2007 BMW 328xi
First of all, thank you for reading my question and taking time to answer it.
I have a 2007 BMW 328xi with 92000 miles on it. I am wondering if I should keep this
car or sell it mostly because of what people day about huge maintenance and repair
expenses that the car can cause once it is over 90000 miles and no warranty covers
the expenses.
I looked at the BMW recommended maintenance schedule for next several thousand
miles and it was not too bad to have this car. But then my engine light came on one
day and went off. I took it to the dealership and they said that the eccentric shaft
sensor needs to be changed as it had gotten oil in it. They quoted me $1300 + tax for
the job. I talked to several other BMW dealerships, they were all in the same ballpark.
Also read several reviews from people who mentioned this problem showing up close to
90k miles. Then I spoke with a local reputed mechanic. He checked the code (P1017)
and confirmed it was related to the eccentric shaft sensor but also said there could be
several reasons for it and did not necessarily meant that the sensor needed to be
changed. I am confused here.
If I decide to keep the car and this or something similar major comes up, I will have to
shell out a huge amount to keep it working. I would really appreciate if anyone can tell
me some of the major repair items along with the associated costs in the USA for the
next 60000 miles.
I love the car and would like to keep it if it makes economical sense. Of-course, I am
not worried about spending an extra $1000 bucks to keep this and not drive a honda
accord.
