manual transmission and mileage

Hi,
I am looking at a 1998 BMW 528i with about 220K miles on it (manual trans.).  I am a complete rookie when it comes to cars.  I was simply curious about reliability of a manual transmission in 1998 BMW 528i, as well as some sort of an estimate on what the mileage on these puppies usually gets to - in their life span.  Any ideas?
