Question type: Maintenance & Repair
Hi , im new here and have a question. Im stuck
between 2 bmw 535i 08. One has 130,000 with
maintenance records and has m5 sport body with
19s wheels from m5 2015, and on the other side is
also 2008 535i from a dealership with 75,000 with
the option to buy 24k warranty all around coverage
or 36k warranty mechanical warranty ( no
electrical ) . I forgot to mention 75,000 mile car is
11k price plus warranty price and finance. And
130,000 is 8k cash this has no warranty but has
service records and m5 body . Any advice

Used BMW cars are VERY expensive to repair and maintain. Unless you have a fat wallet avoid BMW vehicles, if you must have one get the one with warranty.
Im guessing the guy that is selling the car for 8k 130,000 miles has done some good amount of work to it by now... not sure. I know someone at bmw (Mechanic) in the past i had a 535i . In the time that i had it , had put 50,000 on it myself. Only thing went wrong was a water pump and oil changes. Im just thinking its about double the price tag if i go with 75,000 mile car with warranty compared to 130,000 no warranty.
I imagine the extended warranty is pretty pricey. One big repair such as a transmission failure on the no warranty car evens things up between the two. It is a tough decision.
Thanks Bob. Yeah thats the thing . Like i said. I used to own a 535i in the past and that was all that happened to the car. Now im just like 8k cash for the one that has service records with no warranty and 130,000... or the car i have to finance 11k plus warranty that is 2,800 for 24 months 24miles that covers all. Or i 2,500 for mechanical only no electrical for 3 years 36k miles?
get the 08 with lower miles and no warranty ! you still can purchase warranty by your self .it has low miles and i wouldn't think that anything can happen to it . Make sure that you take it to a mechanic to diagnostic / check it before you buy it . BMW 5s famous with trans / water pump / gasket for oil leak and burning oil but no elec prob . the modified BMW is not good choice bc you will drive it to 180M and start to fix plus most of driver of modified bmw ,you see them driving rough the car , so it might be not in good shape the mechanically. good luck
forgot to mention that they have thermostat issue too and parts you can buy from ebay or bapgeon cheaper then dealers.
Thanks for that. Mandmautova3. I live i California and both are cali cars. I just dont know where i woud get warranty if not by the dealership where im gettin car. I was thinking of going the route of getting the 36k mile warranty with no electronics option because it gives me that extra 12k miles plus one more year.
There are some i found online but there are always bad reviews no matter where you go . I also herd geico, mercury, allstate have those kind of coverage offering to their existing customers. I hear shops dont want to put in new parts but refurbished.
you welcome ! they use refurbished bc it's oem and cheaper to buy new one and they can make money selling to you . you can find a good mechanic and you can use geico and other like you said and also you can try asc warranty , that's what i have been using for 5 years and maybe i can talk to them to get you in but will need condition report that the car is good before the warranty. it's only dealer warranty ,you can't get it strait from them . i still don't see a reason to get warranty with that low mileage.
