Cadillac CTS 3rd Brake light 03-07
Asked by Horace Jun 29, 2010 at 10:17 AM about the 2004 Cadillac CTS RWD
Question type: Maintenance & Repair
Anyone know what the failing part(s) usually are/is for the neon power supply? I have a working unit and notice alot of Cadillac owners with issues. I would like to know in the event of failure of my power supply.
Thanks

I've been to 6 GM dealers here in southern Ontario (Canada) and none of them can fix the third brake light on the trunk. Its a "throw away" piece that costs $1,000 with 15 minutes of labour. I've been to 3 independant garages who all say "its a Cadillac thing" and there is nothing they can do. I went to a parts salvager and he siad the part is so rare that I would have to buy the whole trunk lid for $750. I complained to GM here is Oshawa, Ontario and they called my dealer to arrange a 15% discount on the part - big deal, I had already arranged that on my own. Its still way to expensive to fix or replace so I'm not ever going to do it. Its a shame because Ireally luv my 2003 CTS. If any one can fix this for a NORMAL price I would sure like to know!

Search ebay for CTS high mount brake light. I have one posted for sale.
from what i've seen its the actual bulb that dies. guys on the Cadillac Owners Forum are replacing them with red LED stripes. you can buy 24" strips with an LED every 1CM on ebay. it wires right into the same circuit as the neon tube. if you do this, make sure you get red LEDs, white one will look pink through the red plastic.
forgot to mention, th neon bulb to replace is about $800, this LED strip is roughly $10 on ebay.
Ok, So how do I break the seal, and re seal it?
We are doing these repairs for only $69.95. Go to our website at www.ctsthirdbrakelight.com
We also sell these lights used original or used rebuilt.
