Back in the late 80s you could find it in the trunk or hatch arms, or in and around the door jam area, hatch area, back doors near child lock switch. You can pop out the glove box to where it dumps on the floor and look behind it to see if any stickers can be found. Try under the hood and hood arms or hinges. I bet you can try the last 5 numbers on your VIN number as well as the letters on the VIN number can be turned into numbers using a phone key pad. Every electronic has a back door entrance or an override that the factory uses to get in and even program the newer code or reset the code with. The car is old enough to determine which numbers are fading from punching the codes in so it has to be a combo of those worn out numbers. The dealer can help you out quickly with your problem as well.

Oh another place to check for it is up under the dash or steering wheel area. you may need a mirror or get down on your knees to find it, but I also think some codes can be manually reprogrammed yourself so check your manual to see if that is an option.
