Check your owner's manual if you have one. I have a '93 and it tells you to wait about 5 minutes and then try again. Not sure about a 2000's diagnostics but you may have to have a dealer reset it. The 5 min waiting period prevents someone from just tampering with the ignition and trying to start the car without a pass key. It resets itself after the 5 minute wait.
