Sounds like the Traction Control is working, but the engine light is indicating a problem. Should have the vehicle scanned for codes to see what is going on. Write down the codes, they are important to resolve the problem.
Also, the scanner needs to be capable of reading ABS codes. If anything is going on with the Traction Control, it would show up in the ABS codes.
I have a 2004 Chevy Suburban when I drive it in a cold it doesn't shift into 2nd gear it takes as a few minutes is it because it's cold and I didn't let the truck warm up
