INTERMITTENT PASS KEY FAULT START NO START

This was my situation until it failed entirely. The key/cylinder combination were fine, but it was the control unit that went bad (in the trunk). I also learned that you ccanotnbuy a used control unit, either. When the new one is installed, a process runs which mates it to your key, the first time the car is started.

94 Cadilace Fleetwood pass Key Fault light came on . Can you drive the car will be a problem while driving it.It will start what do I need to do .Would I need another key for this car what I need to do.

Yes, it's safe to drive it. Since the vehicle starts and runs the problem is NOT with the ignition key or in the steering column. It's elsewhere in the VATS security system! I had the exact same problem with my '94 Fleetwood. It was the BCM in the trunk. The reason the vehicle will start and run is because the BCM has detected a problem with the VATS security system and the system has been disabled. Keep in mind that if the PCM loses the fuel enable signal from the BCM the engine will stall. Even if you're driving. A trouble code will be stored in the PCM to let you know this has happened. The service engine soon light will NOT come on and stay on if the fuel enable signal is lost but you can pull the trouble code from the PCM to determine this has happened. The first thing I would suggest is see if the BCM has any stored trouble codes. If so, address them first!! If no codes are stored in the BCM I'd replace the BCM. It is Cardone part number 73 7386. I got mine from Ebay, believe it or not! Do not buy a used BCM!! A used BCM will most likely have a different VATS key number than you have so you won't be able to start the engine until you determine what key is in the used BCM memory. So buy a freshly rebuilt BCM!! NO programming is required!! It's 100% plug and play! Hope that helps! Jim

GuruH8L, see my above post. Look for trouble codes from the BCM in the trunk first. If you have no trouble codes, I'd recommend replacing the BCM in the trunk. Hope that helps! Jim

I replace BCM 1990 CADILLAC FLEETWOOD. MY KEY STILL WONT CRANK CAR SOMETIME I DONT HAVE NO TROUBLE CODES MY TRANSMISSION ACT CRAZZIE IT WONT PICK UP SPEED THIS STAR WITH MY KEY FIRST WHEN IT CRANF CAR SOUND BAD

A 1990 Fleetwood is a different vehicle than the 93 to 96 models. But a no crank situation with the security system or Passkey Fault light on is going to be the ignition lock cylinder in the steering column. You should start a new thread for this. Hope that helps! Jim
