Timing belt on 2011 Forester with 97K miles

Asked by Lummy Nov 30, 2018 at 07:00 PM about the 2011 Subaru Forester 2.5 X Premium

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I just bought a 2011 Subaru Forester
With 97K miles on it. The place I am
purchasing it from says  I do not need
to change the timing belt until 120K. I
currently have a 2004 Forester and I
had the TB changed at 80K. Are the
newer models different?

I would change it at 60K being a Subaru. I believe that is their recommendation also. I just looked it up and saw several blogs that said Subaru recommends 60K

First of all the Subaru interval is 105,000 miles, not 120,000. The 2011 Forester should have a FB engine with a Timing Chain.

Only the TURBO models have a TB, the regular 2.5L engine has a chain.
