Sluggish and shuts down

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My car feels sluggish and it feels like it's going to shut down. Also it shakes
when I go passed 55 mph. I just gave my car a tune up and three mechanics
later none can give me answers. They hold my car all day and in the end
they tell me. Well it could be this, that, or maybe something else. Everyone is
afraid to work on my car bc of i's complexities. Today they said the
diagnostic didn't pick up anything. So they think the coils that need to be
changed. "They Think" that's over a $300.00 job for two. The car is sluggish,
and it shut down once but I was able to turn it back on fast. Three
mechanics and they can't tell me what is wrong w my car. I am not a fan to
randomly walk into a new mechanic. I did that last week and homeboy
thought he was about to sucker me... I just need help so I can tell them what
is wrong w my car. Last time I got great answers when these cats thought I
needed a new engine! Yup!

This one's tricky. If you have a bad coil you'll get a misfire code (PO30x, x=number of cylinder not firing). You can buy one coil cheap online and swap it in easily as necessary. I'd probably replace the old platinum spark plugs with new iridium ones ($30/set online) as the OE plats are fragile to detonation of their anodes. So check the coilpacks and plugs, and if everything is fine and the shuddering continues...especially when slowing to a stop to idle, then the greatest likelihood is that there's a clogged solenoid in the CVT's valve body. These are soldered in, so you have to buy the $800 assy and spend $200 to swap it...plus new CVTF. Before doing that I'd spray-clean the motor's throttle-body thoroughly just in case its idle management is gummed up. Odds are it's the CVT if you've no misfire CELs. Good luck. Ern

@SubaruGuruboston Today he cleaned out the throttle-body and the car did not shut down. I will be driving it some more tomorrow but misfire code p0302-4 did come back up. You guys always hit on the nose. Thank You I will be going back next week and will share this information. I never knew Subaru's were complicated to fix?!
