Price Question

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I just got charged almost $950 for new front
brake pads and calipers, rear brake pads,
and an oil change. The mechanic gave me a
10% discount on labor which amounted to
around $860.

Does this sounds like a reasonable price?

1 Answer

If the machinists bought parts locally the calipers are between 100 to 150 each ( if remanufactured) if new can be more) . Rotor between 39 to 79 each). Brake pads vary from cheap semi metallics at 29, to better semi running between 32 to 70 ( come as pair usually). Ceramic brake pads 56 to 103. Brake fluid replacement since changing calipers about 16. Caliper grease ? Unsure of cost. I have large container 18. Oil change depend on what they did. From 29, which is just change oil. Check and top all fluid, replace other filters. Then the labor, I had two different Quotes : 150 per side and 250 per side. Now add in the new service taxes on parts and labor. Yeah, the price is not bad for same day service.
