Question type: Maintenance & Repair
When I go to start the car, with my foot on the brake, I press the start switch, I hear the starter running but the engine will not start. The engine does not fire at all. What could the problem be?

The teeth on the starter flywheel could be broken, and therefore not able to engage the engine. The starter solenoid brings those gears together to start the engine, so it could be the solenoid. Good luck!
Check the sensors - these cars are notorius for the sensor problems!!! I must've changed 5 of them since I got the car (2005 Nissan Altima 2.5 SL). Had the same problem, the car wont start, accelarate, engine won't start etc... all sensor related! I hope it helps!
My 2011 Nissan Altima is killing my battery, therefore car won't start. Third time with same problem. Please reply.
It's your break pedal switch I had the exact same problem. There's a little black piece that's connected to your break pedal that will cause the car to not start when it goes bad I had to get my vehicle towed and before the tow truck could get out the dealer parking lot the car was fixed. They just switched out the piece it's covered under warranty
If it was the brake pedal switch it would not turn over. It could be lots of things ( fuel, spark, sensors, ect.)

My Nissan Teana (Altima) 2008 250XE developed a problem of starting. Firstly, it burned the gasket and the head of which got repaired by mechanic and engineer and the vehicle started moving. After taking a long drive around the city, the car stopped when backing home. What happened is that after climbing a low hill on the highway, the speedometer dropped from 100 to 0 (zero) and could not accelerate anymore even when I pressed the accelerator. It stopped and I parked it at the side of the highway. It had to be toward back home. The mechanic has been working on it but no success, changed battery but no success. Also, the temperature gauge is not indicating. It won't start at all. What can I do or what is your suggestion?

My car did that last week. My battery was weak. Replace the battery still wouldn't crank just turned Over. I hauled it off to the shop and they fixed it. The problem was it was flooded. Just remove the extra gas and it will probably crank
might try checking the starter. even if it turns over if the starter is drawing to much amps it can cause interference in the crank position sensor and be hard to start and intermittent no start . also connections to the battery corrosion is the computers enemy
My brother put a hole in my radiator and then drove my 2011 Nissan Sentra while it was hot. This ruined the engine. I put a new engine in, replaced some spark plugs, made sure everything was good. The car will not start. It tries to turn over but it stops. I have checked the fuel tank and many other suggestions I have gotten. This happened back in February and the new engine has been in for 3 months but still no luck. I even bought a new battery. I have had a lot of people say that it is likely the security system due to having a new engine, Any suggestions? I don't really have $1,500 spare cash to throw it in a shop.
Nissan sunny 2004, stopped on the road while I was driving back home. Now car cranks but does not starts, (Action taken, replaced fuel pump, replaced crank sensor up and down in the engine, replaced all 4 spark plugs from nissan dealer) now battery is dead after so many time of trial to start. any update, .... what could be next ... ? (Nissan Sunny 1.8 same engine as Nissan Sentra)
This exactly what am experiencing now. But so far I have changed only the crankshaft sensor, since during diagnosis it only revealed the sensor problem. Help please

I started my car to move it down the driveway. The next day it cranked but wouldn't catch. Turns out that starting the car for a short time floods the engine and it won't clear by itself. I had to tow it to the dealer, they eventually got it started. $250 later, make sure the car runs for a couple of minutes before turning it off.
So i have a 1999 nissan altima 2.4L 4 cyc. For some reason i em always having to jump it the next day. Everyone is telling me there is a hot wire touching somewhere but it has never done this within the 3yrs of owning it. It is a clutch as well

Have you recently done anything electrical to the car, ie... radio, speakers, system in general; or changed head lights or updated to led's?
If my Max sit for two days, it want start” It says nothing, like the battery is dead. But l have a new battery, jump it off, starts fine and drive fine. That’s crazy “”
I have a 2009 Nissan Altima 2.5.It dies completely while parked.3 new batteries installed and new alternator. The clicker is dead as well and wont even open the doors. My mechanic cant nail the issue. Please assist.Thank you.
Guru your having a parasitic drain. Check that all ground wires are not turning black and rubbery. Check your battery cables making sure there clean of all corrosion(white powered substance). Then check and make sure your alternator is good, if you can jump it and take it to a autozone etc and have them test your battery, alternator and starter as well as run for codes if CHECK or Service engine soon light is on
