Can someone tell me what this is?

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My car was pulling all kinds of codes,
started w/P0300 then P0106 & 01/03 ,
P0102 and finally P0202 Well, my
mechanic by chance noticed a screw
missing on this part and thank God he
did because that was my problem! But
what is this? ,and does it have to be
set a certain way? It's spring loaded
and that little piece beside it, where
does that go? Thanks for any help u
can offer!
