Help with grinding/rattling noise?

Asked by Danielle Oct 23, 2020 at 11:16 PM about the 2012 Honda Civic EX

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2012 Honda Civic, recently I started getting the smell of antifreeze
while stopped at lights, or randomly while driving. Last night I left work and
noticed a slight grinding type sound coming from the front passenger side. I
made a couple stops at different places. I went to head home, and the
grinding/rattling noise is worse. It make this noise while accelerating up to
40+mph, then stops, but starts again when decelerating. I stopped and put
the car in neutral, with foot on brakes, and hit the gas. The noise is still there
and also sounded like a belt squealing. I made it home, left it running and
checked under the hood. I'm pretty sure the noise is coming from a belt pully
or water pump, but not sure. Anyone have this problem before, and if so
what needed to be fixed? No check engine light, no issues starting, no
delayed response time when accelerating, no leaks that I have seen.
