Asked by Michael Jun 09, 2008 at 02:14 PM about the 2002 Honda Civic LX

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I Have a 2002 Honda Civic and whenever i drive the car a aweful grinding noise occurs wheneven i turn corners, shift gears, even decelerate. It gets worse in the rain and sounds like it could really be a problem. Asking advice on what it might be that is the problem and what to do for any servicing.
Thanks

Could be a lot of things, brakes, suspension, etc. Need to have this checked out by a pro.

If it does it while it's idling, try and give us an idea of where it's coming from.

i think it could possibly be coming from the axles, maybe a broken axle boot?

a friend of mine had a similar problem with a corsa and it turned out to be a leaking shock absorber.

engage the clutch all the way when you shift, could be a bad axel, maybe the PS is going bad

I'm sorry but there just isn't enough to go on to guess at the problem. 'Grinding' sound usually makes me think a finger broke off the pressure plate. But that wouldn't explain the sound during turning, and we don't even know if we're dealing with a stick shift. So maybe a suspension component that is grinding when drive load is let off(It would almost have to be a rotating component for a grinding(and not a crunching) sound)? Axle boot, wheel bearing? I dunno.

Yes it is a stick shift and its mostly occurs while shifting and turning corners, its a mild that occurs right below the gearbox of sounds like a broken tooth of a gear or something?

sounds like a pressure plate problem,or a spring has came out of your clutch, you could also have a bad release bearing,i recomend takeing it to a shop you trust and have a clutch job done.also have the axles checked.

Could be axle, could be tranny if u not shifting right! lol... I was gonna say bearings or control arm, but thats not a grind, more of a squeak...
