Mustang v6 cam gear snapped

Asked by Playboy45 Jan 01, 2017 at 10:58 PM about the 2001 Ford Mustang Convertible RWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have an 01 mustang 3.8l, just did a complete
rebuild bored 30 over, 4.2l crank and piston heads,
compcams cam. I tried to start the car for the first
time and it started and died once I let out of the
gas. I then pull the timing cover off to find that the
new camshaft gear was shattered into about 8
pieces, what would cause this?

Valve to piston interference? Did you check the piston to valve clearance?
