Throttle Body removal 2004 2.8 passat 4motion.

Question type: Maintenance & Repair
I want to remove and clean the throttle body on a 2004 passat 4motion 2.8. I'm down to
removing the 3 hex bolts holding it on but my Haynes manual mentions the need to drain
the coolant and remover the water hoses. I see no water hoses running to the body. Can I
just remove these 3 bolts and take of the body?Thank you

You would only have to do that if it is in your way taking throttle body off if not in the way remove bolts and remove throttle body.
So you think I can get to the back side to spray the cleaner in by just pulling it away from the mount?

I thought you where removing the throttle body to clean the whole thing if you just went to spray in throttle body to clean it you do not have to remove the throttle body just remove hose going to throttle body and open choke and spray throttle body cleaner in throttle and use a tooth brush to clean. There are some videos on YouTube to show how to clean throttle body without removing it from vehicle but if you went to clean the back side also it has to be removed. To answer your question if you can clean the back side with out taking it off check out the YouTube video just Google how to clean throttle body on the year, make and model of your vehicle.
On this 2004 Passat water is circulated through the throttle body to prevent icing etc. So if I wanted to remove the whole body I would have to disconnect the hoses and bleed the system when finished. Upon removing the last bolt I was able to access both sides for a spray cleaning. Thanks for your help - there appears to be no videos I could find for this particular year and model.
