Start with the original size on the car....most dealers can help you or if you are on your own, first you must know the number of bolts holding the wheel on....then there is the bolt circle, then the offset, if you want to go for 16 to 17 or 18 there are sources on the internet that will help you select the tire size

This information just gets you to the point of determining if a wheel from another car might fit...this tells you it might fit or bolt on...the other issues are backspacing and clearance, will it rub anything and can you turn the front wheels without it rubbing.... the only way to know that is try the wheel on your car.
