what is causing a clicking sound when I put my toyota van in gear?

When my van is put into reverse I hear a click sound which is very loud when
standing beside the drivers wheel.  Sometimes I can hear it when I turn sharply
too.

My first guess is that you have a worn cv axle or something in the brake on that side is loose
