2006 Grand Cherokee

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Was having probs when using air/heat, idle would
get crazy shaky and sometimes result in power
loss. Usually when foot was on the brake while at a
red light, etc. Hubby was going to replace the
blower motor, as we knew that was one problem.
Still seemed something else was def going on, he
replaced every single sensor imaginable, including
idle control, map, and more. These things seemed
to GENERALLY help the Jeep, so they must have
needed replaced. While it seemed to drive better, it
didn't fix it. It still shook like crazy when I started it
the last couple of days, so I let it warm up and
shake it off, then driving it would act ok, but still
with power loss at times, and some shaking. No
check engine light, no codes come up. I could tell
that this problem was going to come to an end, and
soon. Daughter took it last night to eat Chinese with
friends, went to the gas station and called us on her
way home saying she was trying to get it to the
house quick bc it was smoking and shaking
uncontrollably, wouldn't go over 40 and making
some weird brake or grinding noise. Now it's sitting
in the driveway and won't start, which I knew was
coming next. She's 16, and an exceptionally
responsible driver for her age, although she's still
16, so I'm sure she just doesn't know how to
describe the noise, bc it def wasn't the brakes, all of
that is new. We've literally replaced so much on this
Jeep, my husband was a mechanic before he
started on the railroad, so he does it all at his
buddy's shop. But everyone with their heads
together cannot tell us what is wrong. We're
frustrated and tired of it in general. It's the only
vehicle out of 4 in our driveway we have a payment
on, and full coverage. My husband almost cried last
night, but I'm glad it got to this point, but either the
motor is blown out this problem will get solved now,
and the way things are looking it's  50/50. To top it
off it snowed almost a foot out here on our farm in
WV last night lol. Go figure. Can anyone help us
figure this out at all??

Well is there a vacuum leak, does it need a tune up, is the Head Gasket failing if there was white smoke? Did it overheat and now it won't start due to a warped head?

Doesn't need a tune up, was also recently done. There's no relevant vacuum lines on this 2006 Laredo, except what goes to the brakes, which are fine. We're unsure about the head just yet, although we not getting any antifreeze in the oil, which is good, I hope. Don't know about the color of the smoke bc it was dark out when this happened, but had an unusual smell that I can't describe, but I've been kind of smelling it the past week when I pull it back in the driveway from going to town. That's all I've got for now, and it's still snowing insanely so we can't really get out there just yet. Was just hoping maybe someone else had an experience similar that could shed some light. Thanks

Haha that's buried! The only other vacuum leak is the manifold itself. Just because there isn't antifreeze in the oil it doesn't mean the head gasket is good. Get a combustion tester from a parts store and crank the engine. I've had plenty of vehicles come through the shop. it stalled out with a misfire and wouldn't start again. Had to get the head gaskets replaced and heads resurfaced. Then it ran again.
