Jetta shut off while driving after putting in too much oil

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My 2008 Jetta was bone dry. No oil. Put 2
quarts in. Then later that night, someone
put 5 quarts in, because the dipstick was
barely showing any oil. I drove it an hour
later. Oil light starts flashing and beeping.
Pulled over to inspect. Sounded like a
tornado was under the hood. Let it rest for
a min. Made it to an Auto Zone. They
hooked up the code reader and it came
back saying misfire number 1, coolant
temp sensor and too much oil. I drive 5
minutes and car shut off while I was doing
55. Towed it home. Changed all plugs and
wires, coil packs, drained half the oil.
Does a 2008 Jetta have a "system
shutdown" sensor? Someone said they
might. If not, what could it be?

Most cars do if it's something detrimental like too much oil, no oil, or temp way too high.

Happened to me long ago in my dodge shadow. Pulled off interstate when engine light came on. Bone dry, so, filled up oil and 15m later car quit. Towed home with blown engine, had to get new one! If none dry, damage usually done by time light comes on. Taught me to always check my oil! Good luck.

So does this mean there are no suggestions to repair it without spending a fortune? How about this: drain all the oil, remove plugs, crank it crank it and crank it til all the excess oil gets out, put in new plugs, add oil, and may even have to go thru a couple sets of plugs. The guy told me this might work if the problem was "too much oil". And he also said it will run like sh#t for the next week or so, but until alllllllll the oil is out it won't run. Does that sound right? And what about that switch that makes your car cut off before you do serious damage to your motor? Anyone ever heard of that? If so, please elaborate on it. Thank you!

Also, how will I know if the engine is blown? When I try to start it, it sounds like it wants to start but it won't turn over.
