2011 Ram 1500 5.7 w/ misfire P0301 and low oil pressure

Asked by RAMTJP Sep 27, 2020 at 06:44 PM about the 2011 RAM 1500 Sport Crew Cab 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My 2011 Ram 1500 5.7 Hemi while pulling
travel trailer all of a sudden threw a check
engine light. The light blinked for a little bit
then went solid. The code is P0301 misfire on
cylinder 1. The misfire is intermittent with the
code going active and stored based on
whether or not the engine is under load. Oil
pressure drops to 17 at idle. I changed the
plugs and ignition coil for the cylinder.
Problems still exist. The truck runs ok until I
get on it any at all.

Did you check the oil level? How is the oil pressure under load?

Before my trip I had my oil topped off. Checked oil level and is still good. I've been keeping an eye on the oil pressure while driving. The pressure is staying in the upper 30s while driving.

How did the old spark plug look? I would check compression to see if you have low compression in #1.

Oil pressure in the 30's is kinda low. I don't know that it is the direct cause of your problem but it could simply indicate a worn engine.
