2004 Cadillac Battery Drain!!!!!! HELP
Asked by jroeder14 May 19, 2014 at 02:14 PM about the 2004 Cadillac SRX V8 AWD
Question type: Maintenance & Repair
I need help. I have a 2004 Cadillac SRX. It runs and drives fine, especially seeing that it's almost 11 years old. It's decked out for an '04 with all the options that on could have expected in that year. However, it has a major battery drain somewhere and neither myself and two mechanics can find it. There are no lights being left on. I even make it a point to turn off the A/C and radio unit everytime i exit the car. I have checked all of the dome lights, all of them work and the push buttone work as well. All of the switches are functional and are in proper position, Windows, locks, seat adjstments, rear seat, etc. If I don't drive this car everyday, it will completely drain the battery and not start. I have to jump it off. Does anyone have any idea what this might be? We've been leary to take it to a dealer because of costs.

Thanks for the response!!! I first took it to the dealership, not a caddy, but a GM local dealer. They hooked it up to thier "computer" and charged me a diagnostic fee and said that it was the battery. I went to Autozone and paid for the new battery. After a couple days, the same thing happened. I then took it to a independent mechanic and he said to replace the alternator, that it wasn't the alternator, but a regulator on the alternator, but I had to purchase the entire alternator. I bout that from autozone and he put it on for me. No change. Something is draining this car down.

I know this post is over a year old but I am having the same issues and am wondering if anyone has found a solution to this. I'm considering buying an alternator but from the posts above its not going to fix the issue. Your help would be greatly appreciated

I have same issue. I changed 2 batteries. I took car to electrical workshopand he didn't find anything. Still I have problem . Please any help
Did anyone ever figure out the problem? My 2006 cadillac srx has had 3000 dollars of work and they still can't figure out what the problem is. Twice they said to come pick it up and both times the car wouldn't start. The computer was changed. They think it might be the cd player???? It's been 2 weeks. Help!!!!

I have same issue and found the problem. I was in quiet area and I switched off my car and I put my ear near the radio but I was hearing sound even everything is off and removed the keys. Then I removed battery wire from battery then sound gone then I understood that something wrong on radio/cd player making my battery dead overnight. Then I put battery cable back then sound came back. Then I remove radio fuse sound gone . Now I am using car since 1 month without issue but without radio/cd. It is expensive to fix radio/cd of my cadillac .
i don't have an answer and neither does anyone else no one knows the root cause?

I don't have an answer either. I have a 2004 Escalade and at first it did fine! I bought it used and it worked fine for years, but since it started doing this about a year ago my battery drains if I don't crank it every two hours or so and that's annoying! My husband has to charge the battery repeatedly and it will start and I can drive it but when it sits overnight and I don't go out and start it and let it run for about 30 minutes or drive it somewhere the battery will drain again! Sure wish we knew what to do!
First Off THANK YOU NacerKhida Your Answer was spot on. Next OFF: Don't every buy a Cadillac out of warranty, they are a money pit they are designed for failure (Mr. Goodwrench $$$$) BAckground: A/C stopped while driving. Computer Message came on radio screen "Battery Assist" or somehting like that (not sure). Car died, Nearby O'Reiily Auto Parts checked out battery (no problem) checked out alternator (no problem) Considered fusible link (some cadillacs this is a problem) Came across post from NacerKhida, (let try removing the Radio (Audio Fuse) its located in a fuse box that is located under the carpet (velcro tabs) just in front of Driver's side rear passenger seat. Pulled the Audio Fuse and low and behold, the car starts, no more gremlins Dear General Motors WTF, I mean SERIOULSY WTF???

Bonnie, look at the rear window wiper switch. Somehow this switch mes up with the entire system
My is draining cause of the passenger speaker for some reason..
There are many posts online about how to do a battery draw test with a meter. It is very simple to do, if you can do anything mechanical. There is a service bulletin for a battery drain caused by the dimmer switch in the overhead console. This was causing about an amp drain in my 2005 SRX. There is a replacement part for it, but I just lowered the console and unplugged the dimmer switch. The radio is also drawing about an amp without the key in the ignition. Like others, I just pulled the fuse on it. I still have over an amp parasitic draw that I can't track down. I will update the post if I can find it. http://ww2.justanswer.com/uploads/heavychevy396/2010-11-23_144810_2004_cadillac_cts_battery_drain_1.pdf

my 2004 deville has the battery under the rear seat. When the battery drains dead I can't get into the car to jump it because the key requires electricity. I have to lie in the trunk, reach through the middle arm rest with my extended snow brush to pull up the button. I am considering a remote cut off switch so the battery won't drain. So much for the clock.
