If gas is getting into oil should I be concerned about engine damage?

Asked by Joe Feb 15, 2020 at 03:00 AM about the 2012 GMC Terrain SLE1 AWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

This Terrain hasn't gotten better than 20 MPG. Found out about a class action
Lawsuit on Terrain 2010-2013. Checked oil and it looks a little orange/milky
color and definitely smells like gas. Called dealership as it's still under GM
certified. If they fix it should I keep it or let them keep it?

Gas getting in oil would be a major concern, it will damage bearing surfaces over time. You would have to be concerned with how long this motor has been like this, engine could have been sludged up for years, even if you fix it now the engine may still have a short life.
