wheel speed sensor / hub assy ?

My son just purchased a 1002 Malibu ltz. He's got the esc light coming on as described in some other posts. While under the vehicle inspecting wires, connectors, etc., I notice it appears one of the hubs has recently been replaced. I guess my question is, is it possible the sensor in the new hub is different, or has a different plug configuration ?  Also, is there a way to test the sensors ? Any help's GREATLY appreciated.
