Speed sensor

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Okay, my ABS light is on. I had changed my wheel
bearing last week , and grease the whole thing, put
everything back together the way it was. But the
ABS light came on. Now I heard their is a ring on
the wheel bearing that needs to stay smooth for
the sensor, and I had greased the whole wheel
bearing , could that be the problem? Me putting
grease on that ring. Please help me

Might be possible to ohm test the sensor but I would clean what you can an see if that makes a difference. Yes, some tone rings can get damaged or cracked if they are the external type. On some bearings the pickup or magnet rings are internal of the bearing itself. If there is dirt or foreign matter in the hole then it could disrupt the signal to wire pickup. Good Luck!

Do you have a press in wheel bearing that needs a certain type of orientation? Meaning. Magnetic side in towards the transmission? I would not have greased the ring like Brian said because this will pick up dirt easier. I always use Q-tips to clean in each low spot on the ring. Clean this and the sensor tip off and this should fix your issue.
