2006 dodge charger rt stalls out
Asked by Frankapopka Apr 29, 2015 at 03:23 PM about the 2006 Dodge Charger R/T RWD
Question type: Maintenance & Repair
I have a 2006 Dodge charger rt that keeps stalling out. I know about the "over filling of gas tank", I was having that problem too, I just don't fill all the way up anymore. This is a different problem. It doesn't mater how much gas I have. I will be driving and will shut off for a second and turn back on. If I'm stopped the car will stall. It will start right back up again. At first, it only did it once in awhile, now its getting worse. I drive about 8 miles to work, and it will shut off about 10+ times in that short distance.I have codes P0700 & U0100. I've done some research and many people had the same problem, the ended up replacing the ECU and said it solved the problem. I got a new ECU today, disconnected neg battery cable, waited about an hour to reset everything, put new ECU in and still same Problem. Not sure what to check or replace now. Very Frustrated! Thanks!!!

That was happening with our Ford Explorer, and we were told it was idling too slow. We didn't take it to get it fixed yet, but thought it might need to be "cleaned out" a little bit. We were told by a good source to put in Lucas injection treatment and Startron fuel treatment. It's a lot better! He said it's because of the high amounts of Ethanol they are putting in our gas. It's worth a try!
I would have my crank position sensor checked bc they are commonly known for those symptoms on a dodge.
I am having the exact problem with my 2006 Charger 5.7 Hemi (former police car). I am seeing many say the computer PCM ECM?? I started today with the simple things first. I tightened my battery terminals and added a good fuel system cleaner. I will see tomorrow. Good luck.

Having this same issue on my Rt Charger 06 runs for a while then stalls driving for sec den switch back on no codes or fault what so ever HELPPP!!!
It sounds like a vacuum leak to me. I have a 2.7, 06 charger and had it a year all it did was overheat no matter what I did and I replaced the whole cooling system. I decided to bypass my heater core (cause I couldn't afford a new one at the time. So long story short my car stopped overheating and began stalling when I came to a stop. Well I had just changed plugs and coil packs . I didn't have the right o ring for the EGR, but put it together anyway .that's when the stalling started. Got the new o ring , put it in and no more stalling. So check all your vacuum lines. You can use a long piece of hose even vacuum line and start car and put the hose to a part of the engine where you have vacuum and the other end to your ear , if you have a vacuum leak you will hear it. If it works for you let me know . I'm a 60 year old grandma and have been doing my own car work for about 10 years cause I could not afford a shop, most people don't believe it when I say I do my own work so to show them a post that says yea it worked would be cool either way let me know. I hope this helps
we have having this same issue on a 2007 dodge charger hemi plz if anyone of yall fixed yours what did you replace??
Are the o2 sensors good, clean air filter, clean pcv valve, mines does the same but I need o2 sensors. Also if I get bad gas89 or wrong Gas 87 mines does it, because Dodge have knock sensors that comes on when the gas is not good. So check to see if it’s the knock sensor as well, also clean your throttle body’s the get clog as well
I am having the same problem with my Dodge Charger R/T. It will drive for maybe a half hour, and shuts off. It won't restart until you let it cool down, and you're good for another half hour. I looked up the codes, they say ECM not communicating with TCM. It sat at the dealer for 86 days, and they gave up. I have since taken it to 4 master mechanics with each one saying something different. One said spark plugs changed those 4 days later it started shutting off again. Took it back, they said coil packs, a few days later same problem. Another shop said Power Control Module, fixed that same problem. I've had it since 2016, and it has become a back yard ornament.
I have a 2009 dodge charger (hemi) former police car. The car wouldn't start n it said fuel pump was bad. Change fuel pump n now it acts as if when u drive n its gets to a quarter of a tank mark as if you ran out of gas. Took fuel pump off to check out things n it had plenty pf gas still in tank. Can you tell me what could be wrong r what i need to do. Also gas gauge wasn't working that gd when i brought it but made sure to keep gas in it because gentleman said two marks left after full meant ful was low. new fuel pump it still hasn't change. Please help if anyone can help with this promblem.
Try resetting your dash, that should help with your gauge problem hopefully all, because when I reset my dash it took my car out of LIMP MODE. I have an 06 charger r/t with 62k miles when I had to replace the motor and it sat for 3 months after that because of LIMP MODE. You can reset by push the button by the gas gauge then turn car to the car on but don’t start it, to where all your gauges lights come on. After a few seconds of your gauges moving around in the process, when they complete stop you should be good. You can also reset your transmission very similar by turn your key on but don’t start where all the light on dash comes and goes after again. But in the middle of dash the last light that should go off is 1 with a Lighting Bolt, when it go off push your foot on the gas pedal slowly then release slowly. You can start your car after that and be good to go, hopefully these resets can help your problems
We had been dealing with the stall issue for the last 2 years. Tried every single repair/fix under the sun. Went to the dealer and spent an enormous amount of money to no avail! We basically had everything under the hood and even the gas tank replaced still had the same issue. I ran across a YouTube post where I read you must replace the PCM. It cannot under any circumstance be a dealer PCM as they are known to have their own issues. Replace your PCM with an after market one. I decided to give it a try since we have tried EVERY SUGGESTION/FIX. We purchased an after market PCM, installed it and this car drives better than when we 1st purchased it! It has not stalled in months now!!! I am so happy I ran across the post wish I could have found it sooner.
What I see the problem is common with these cars, former police cars, hemi, most years 2006-2009. I'm in Puerto Rico and I have a 2006 hemi rt former police car and I have the same problems all of you have. If someone fixed their car, can anyone post what was done to eliminate the problem?
We dealt with the stalling issue on our 2006 Charger for years. Spent countless dollars on useless repairs. Just recently found the fix from a recent online YouTube post. The problem was definitely with the PCM. The resolution is that you MUST and I cannot emphasize MUST purchase an AFTERMARKET PCM. Under no circumstance can it be a factory PCM as they are known to have issues. I cannot believe the dealer has not made more consumers more aware of this issue. I purchased a refurbished PCM for $275 from computerexchange.com. Once the unit was installed we have NO and I mean NO stalling issues since then. I can't believe after YEARS this stalling issue was finally resolved. Car runs like new now and does NOT stall. This is the fix and I mean the ultimate fix. Wish I could have found this fix both years and dollars ago! Feels good having my car back!

I have a 2006 Dodge Charger Rt. Im in Kuwait. The car would act as it is shutting off and quickly within a second it is back on. It does not shut off completely but acts as it is shutting off or slamming on brakes but at the same second it is on and about.

Was having the same issues took out filter under hood ,new gas cap and added an additive to oil and gas and trasmission,2007 dodge charger sxt, tightened throttle hose all gone and was constant change of codes for coils and spark.used two bottles of additives marvel large, think it was also caused by dirty injectors.run fabulous
I have a 2006 Charger SRT8 with 47,000 and have had MAP sensor, camshaft sensor and crank shaft sensor replaced, the gas tank replaced, the throttle body replaced, the coil packs and plugs replaced and the computer changed yet it still has the stalling problem! I bought it at the beginning of November and the dealer has had it longer than I have and still not running right! Someone mentioned they had the wiring harness changed but never saw a response whether or not it worked.

Was having similar issues as everyone paid for the after market ecm still didnt fix issue because I either have a broken wire still in insulation or a bad crimp that I just cant see at the plugs of the ECM if u tap the plugs the car stalls it is not a bad ecm it's the wire harness going to try to get a junk yard harness for the plugs and see if it fixes the issue

So this is what I found after chasing this problem in my 2006 dodge magnum rt. There's a little capacitor on the driver's side rear the engine it's bolted on and grounded with the wire plugged into it. Either bad ground or bad connection makes this intermediate making vehicle shut off then restart again replaced mine took care of the problem
Essentially, the original tanks are defective. The car will suck liquid gas into the engine due to a poorly made overflow valve. Liquid gas in the engine makes it stall. What you should do: 1. Call Chrysler customer service. Tell them you would like to open a case for your vehicle in regards to the X53 Extended Warranty Fuel Tank Recall. They’ll take your vin, search for a while, and then tell you that it applies to their vehicle. Then get the case number from them. Once you have that, call the local dealer, explain your symptoms (do not tell them you topped off your tank. just tell them you filled up and it stalled multiple times afterwards.) They will get you in to most likely test/inspect the car. Tell them to fill up on gas if they need to replicate the problem. My dealer went straight to ordering a new tank. 100% free. Just have the case number and X53 warranty info handy in case they give you a hard time. Dealers are NOT allowed to charge diagnostic fees of any kind for a warranty issue
I changed the Ecm, Pcm, Coils, plugs, fuel injectors, O2 sensors, camshaft sensors, crankshaft sensors, throttle body, cleaned cool air intake filter, transmission cable, had Emc re-mapped, and the car still stalls. When the stalling first started I smelled burning wires. It's been to 8 different mechanics, including the Dealer, whom gave up after having the car for 87 days. The Mechanic that has it now specializes in computer related issues, and even he is puzzled. After another $1,400 he says it has to be a wire issue, that could cost thousands to find. I am ready to wash my hands with this one. Dodge has really disappointed me with this one. You couldn't give me a Dodge after this.

This is nothing more than a faulty connector, it's back on the passenger side engine bay, near the purge valve. It connects the wires from the cluster to the FCM and the PCM. Near the purge valve. THOSE WIRES/PINS ARE LOOSE!!! FIND THAT CONNECTOR, UNPLUG IT, INSPECT THE PINS AND CLEAN THEM IF NEEDED. PLUG IT BACK IN MAKING SURE ITS SEATED COMPLETELY, CHECK CONTINUITY FROM EACH WIRE ON BOTH SIDES OF THE CONNECTOR, REPAIR BROKEN WIRES, OR STRAIGHT WIRE THEM LIKE I DID! NOOO MORE STALLING!!!!! Also these cars have so many safety features involved in every aspect you can imagine, to protect something else from failing. Having your oil or transmission fluid even just a tiny bit low will also cause a stalling issue in the very same way. CHECK THOSE TWO AS WELL!!! Good luck!!!
