VW Jetta - Exhaust Complications

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Hello.
I own a 2012 VW Jetta (S/2.0/Sedan). Recently an exhaust leak had occurred within my vehicle, probably due to all the snow, etc. The leak has been difficult to find and very small. Pipe had a hole where the pipe meets the catalytic converter. My cousin welded me a new pipe and my husband slapped on some "quick steel" that we purchased from Advance Auto. The welded pipe was placed over top of the current pipe. The bracket had seized to my engine block which is why we did what we did instead of replacing the whole pipe. If I were to attempt removing the pipe, it could cause a whole other bigger issue and destroy my engine block.

After that was all said and done, I was still smelling carbon monoxide and there's still another hole somewhere else we discovered. Where at is our current question. I am afraid to take it somewhere for repair as I'll probably be told the whole pipe will need replacing.

Has anyone ran into this issue? Could anyone here offer a suggestion?
Thank you.

I was referring to the hole as far as not being able to find the source. Sorry if I was unclear. Was absolutely not referring to the gas smell. Smell used to be bad. Do not really notice it anymore, most of the time. Sadly I still have 3 more years of payments so I'm kind of stuck with the piece of junk and this vehicle has been nothing but problems. I will never purchase a VW or German made car again. Thank you for your response. I appreciate it. I will seek out a mechanic. Sadly where I live that's probably not very easy however.
